The history of the rafters finds its origins in trade, in fact, the Trentino region, particularly the Val Lagarina and low Trentino during the 16th and 17th centuries were're being invaded by the French, the Venetians and the Austrians, of course.
trade by land was difficult because of the lack of connecting roads over long distances. So the people of a small village in the Val Lagarina which stood by the river Adige, Borgo Sacco fact, it was plan to build rafts and with the help of the river current carrying the republic of Venice timber needed for the construction of ships, which came from the forests of Trentino, Val di Fiemme and Fassa, and also from South Tyrol.
The rafts were constructed of wood and joined together with thick hemp ropes, just like the Saturday before the assembling of the raft. The rafts were doi measure 7-8 meters x 4 and were commanded by a chief rafts, usually the oldest, the rafters were on board in 5, to a larger rudder to the bow, two rudders and two side of long poles which were used to test the bottom of the river during the steps near the rocks shoals.
So people in spite of the small village became a nation of sailors, experts and acquaintances of the most dangerous currents and eddies as the river and dry (the rocks that rise on the river) this trade, over the years extended from Bolzano to Rovigo and the sea, then with the construction of railroads disappeared a bit at a time. (Around 1870-1880)
you should know that the river right next to the bridge that connects the country's right bank, there is the church of St. Nicholas, patron of the rafters, and the most curious thing is that when with the rafts moored to the left bank, stopped at the church, back to the river, there was a small door just 1.50 m high, located behind the altar, and entered one at a time sagging rafters, was a form of thanksgiving to be arrived at home safely honoring the Lord .

Paneveggio Park and San Martino di Castrozza
In Park Paneveggio-Pale di San Martino rocks, woods, meadows, streams and lakes were the same as at the time of the earthly paradise. We are in the Dolomites at 1250 meters above sea level.
Cross the park, strictly by foot, along a route called "ethnographic Vanoi Path", a 25 km. The path have been recovered and restored on the initiative of the province of Trento and the European Community contribution 12 chalets and now furnished and open to the public.
The key is delivered to guests at the entrance of the park. The electricity is produced by its own hydraulic force-fed. Within each hut there is a need to stay in the shower water too hot. You come to these
