The State of Acre: Foto-Tour-Tourism

Until the beginning of 20th century, Acre belonged to Bolivia. As in the first decades of the 19th century, however, the Brazilians made up the majority of its population. By signing the Treaty of Petrópolis in 1903, Brazil was granted final possession beyond the region, located in the north. Acre was built initially as a territory and was upgraded to a state in 1962.

The State of 632,174 inhabitants are currently spread among 22 cities and towns (municipalities). The state capital is the city of Acre in Rio Branco, who is also the most populated, followed by Cruzeiro do Sul, Tarauacá, Sena Madureira and Brasilea.

The local economy is polarized by two cities: Cruzeiro do Sul, in the north-east, where the High Pull Juruá Reserve and the Serra do Divisor National Park are located, and the capital of Rio Branco, south-east, which concentrates and industrial activities.
